READING, Pa. – McDaniel swept doubles play en route to an 8-1 win over Albright in non-conference men's tennis action on Tuesday.
Aiden Finnerty (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) was one of four players for the Green Terror (2-1) with a straight-set victory in singles play. He won 6-3, 6-3 at sixth singles.
Dylan Rutt paced the Lions (0-2) with a victory at fourth singles. He dropped the first set 6-3 before forcing a super-tiebreaker deciding set with a 6-3 win. He took the deciding set, 10-5.
Will Giles (LaVale, Md./Bishop Walsh), Luke Shuck (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Quinn Burker (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and Jimmy Wawrzynski (Westminster, Md./Westminster) all won twice on the day for McDaniel.
Shuck and Burker teamed for an 8-6 win at first doubles before Shuck took second singles, 6-0, 6-1. Burker needed a third-set super-tiebreaker to prevail at third singles. He dropped the first-set tiebreaker 7-5 to fall 7-6 before winning the second set, 6-3. In the deciding set, Burker won, 11-9.
Giles and Wawrzynski partnered for an 8-5 win at second doubles. Giles then won 6-3, 6-1 at first singles while Wawrzynski took fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Tate Myers (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) and Justin Arter (Waldorf, Md./North Point) rounded out the winners, taking third doubles by an 8-2 score.
McDaniel returns to action at ITA Regionals hosted by Mary Washington on Friday, Sept. 29.
