Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins scored nine runs in the sixth inning to break the game open and defeat McDaniel 18-7 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Sunday.
Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) led the Green Terror (8-15, 0-6 CC) with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, adding three RBIs.
Conor Reynolds led the 13th-ranked Blue Jays (19-6, 5-1 CC) with three hits, four runs and four RBIs.
Ryan Orgielewicz led off the second with a double before a single and hit batter loaded the bases with one out. A Jon Hayden RBI groundout staked Johns Hopkins to a 1-0 lead.
A Reynolds single, stolen base and Mike Smith ground-rule double made it a 2-0 game in the third before Orgielewicz then blasted a two-run home run for a 4-0 lead.
Nelson was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth before a walk, sacrifice bunt and Tim Griest (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) single to left made it a 4-1 game.
Singles by Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) and Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) put two on with one out in the fifth for Nelson, who blasted a three-run shot to tie the game in the fifth.
Reynolds led off the bottom of the frame with a home run to reclaim the lead and spark a four-run inning.
Three straight doubles, including a two-run Mike Eberle shot to left field, keyed a nine-run sixth. Reynolds added a three-run, two-out home run to cap the inning.
The Blue Jays tacked on one run in the eighth before an error opened the door for a three-run top of the ninth to set the final margin.
Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) and Griest added two-hit outings.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
