Box Score 2 LANCASTER, Pa. – McDaniel took advantage of Franklin & Marshall miscues in game one to earn a doubleheader split in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (13-18, 5-9 CC) captured the opener 8-3 before the Diplomats (18-16-1, 6-7-1 CC) responded with a 7-0 win in game two.
Will Strauss (Freeport, N.Y./Waldorf) led McDaniel with three hits in the twinbill.
Cory Hecht paced Franklin & Marshall with a pair of two-hit outings. He also drove in four runs.
Trailing 1-0 in game one after Reed Williams doubled to plate Hecht in the bottom of the third, Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) led off the fourth with a double before scoring on a one-out Strauss single to tie the game.
Mike Dunn (Lanham, Md./DeMatha) led off the fifth with a double before taking third on a wild pitch and scoring on an error for a 2-1 lead.
A pair of throwing errors helped extend the lead to 4-1.
A two-out error, Kengo Kawahara infield single and David Iacobucci single to left cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the frame.
An error on a sacrifice bunt and a Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) bunt hit on a squeeze play pushed the lead to 5-2 in the seventh. A walk and hit batter forced a pitching change with two outs before Dunn singled home a pair to stretch the lead to 8-2.
Justin Cavegn singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth before scoring on a two-out Hecht double to set the final margin.
Nelson, Morris, Strauss and Dunn all two hits in game one. Jordan Rhodes (Fawn Grove, Pa./McDonogh) went the distance with four strikeouts for his first collegiate complete game.
In the nightcap, Casey Bulik led off the third with a single before scoring on a Hecht double. Hecht later made it a 2-0 game on a Jimmy Whelan one-out single to the gap.
After Cavegn singled and Danny Blugis was hit by a pitch with one out in the fourth, Hecht roped a two-out double to left to double the advantage.
The Diplomats tacked on a pair in the seventh before a Bulik two-out solo shot set the final margin in the eighth.
Mike Androconis went seven strong innings, striking out seven to earn the win for Franklin & Marshall.
Rosanova notched two of the Green Terror's six hits in game two.
McDaniel returns to action at Gettysburg on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
