Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington (Md.) scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit and defeat McDaniel 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Tuesday.
Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) led the Green Terror (11-17, 3-8 CC) with two hits.
Wes Robertson went 4-for-5 to lead the Shoremen (13-18, 4-7 CC), who had four players with multiple hits.
Luke D'Ostillo and Matt Tancredi put together back-to-back one-out doubles in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 1-all.
A Robertson RBI single through the left side gave the hosts a one-run lead.
Evan Hirschbaum led off the sixth with a single before scoring on a Gavin O'Donnell one-out double down the line for a 3-1 lead.
McDaniel had the tying runs on base in both the seventh and eighth innings but could not capitalize.
The Green Terror jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) led off the fourth with a strikeout but a wild pitch allowed him to reach base. While the Shoremen catcher was busy arguing for a foul tip, Rosanova alertly turned and took second.
After stealing third, he was able to score on an Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) sacrifice fly.
P.J. Mikulus went 6 2/3 innings for Washington, striking out eight to pick up his third win of the season.
McDaniel concludes the home-and-home series with Washington (Md.) at home on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
