Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington (Md.) closed the game on an 11-2 run to defeat McDaniel 17-7 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldfields) led the Green Terror (4-5, 0-2 CC) with a pair of goals.
Kristy Grovom paced the Shorewomen (6-3, 1-1 CC) with five goals.
Katherine Vincent and Grovom staked the hosts to a 2-0 lead before five-and-a-half minutes elapsed in the contest.
Brownawell finished a solo run with 21:52 to play in the opening half, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The teams traded tallies before Cicily Docktor, who finished with three goals and three assists, found the back of the net with 47 ticks remaining for a 5-3 lead at the break.
Docktor scored 23 seconds on the other side of the intermission to stretch the lead to 6-3 before Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and Abby Phillips (New Freedom, Pa./North Harford [Md.]) scored 1:25 apart to cut the deficit to 6-5.
Grovom, however, finished a solo run with 20:05 to push the lead back to two.
A Lauren Brenner unassisted tally with 16:49 on the clock started a flurry of three goals in 38 seconds.
The advantage swelled to 13-5 with 12:14 to play before Geiger broke up a nearly 14-minute scoreless drought.
The Shorewomen reeled off three straight, however, to open up a 10-goal lead with 3:55 to play before Brownawell and Vincent traded markers in the final 49 seconds.
Allison Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) chipped in five draw controls and three ground balls while Kelly Novak (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) added two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
