Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Montclair scored twice in the game's final 15.7 seconds to defeat McDaniel 10-9 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday.
Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldsfield) led the Green Terror (1-2), scoring three of the team's four first-half goals.
Lindsay Lare led the Red Hawks (3-1) with a hat trick of her own, including the game-winning tally on a free-position shot as time expired in regulation.
Trailing 9-7, Lare finished a solo run with 7:17 on the clock to close the deficit to one.
With time winding down in regulation, Megan Mahistadt rolled to the left side of the cage and fired, finding the back of the net with 15.7 seconds left to tie the game at 9-all.
Francesca Verrone won the ensuing draw control cleanly and sprinted to the offensive end. After a shot went wide of the cage and out of bounds with 4.0 seconds to play, Montclair restarted with one last chance to avoid overtime. A foul was called and Lare was put on the 8-meter arc on the left wing with 0.9 seconds showing. The senior took one step and fired a low liner into the net as the horn expired for the game-winning tally.
Brownawell opened the scoring, finishing an unassisted tally just 46 seconds into the game.
Aviana Paraggio netted her first of three tallies just 2:10 later to even the game.
Chelsea Orban gave the Red Hawks a 2-1 lead with 20:24 showing before three straight McDaniel goals gave the hosts a 4-2 lead with 9:28 remaining.
Brownawell bookended the stretch with Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) netted her first marker of the season in the middle.
Natalie Bade converted a free-position tally with 4:06 on the clock and Lare finished with 1:53 showing to draw Montclair even at the break.
Megan Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) streaked down the middle of the circle and finished just 2:15 into the second half to put the Green Terror back on top, 5-4.
Parraggio completed a pass from Verrone before Verrone finished a solo run to turn the one-goal deficit into a one-goal lead.
Annemarie Duerr (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Paraggio traded goals fewer than two minutes apart before back-to-back Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) goals and a Farrell free-position goal gave the hosts its two-goal lead with 15:07 remaining.
Duerr won five draw controls. Allison Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) picked up seven ground balls while her younger sister Lindsey had three caused turnovers and three ground balls to go with her two goals and one assist.
The Green Terror returns to action at Albright on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
