Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Stevenson jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first two innings to defeat McDaniel 6-3 in non-conference baseball action on Thursday.
Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led the Green Terror (8-9) with three hits.
Matthew Kerber led the Mustangs (7-13) with three hits of his own.
Back-to-back errors to start the game put runners at first and second with nobody out. After a sacrifice bunt put both runners in scoring position, Billy Small drew a two-out walk.
Michael Rhodes followed with a bouncing ball through the left side to stake Stevenson to a 2-0 lead.
Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) dropped a single into right center to start the bottom of the frame and took second after a bobble in the outfield.
After he stole third, Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) laced a one-out single back up the middle to cut the deficit in half.
Brady Kessler led off the second with a single before a two-out Kerber single through the right side with the runner in motion put runners at the corners.
Kerber swiped second and Kessler was able to come home on the same play.
After an infield single once again put runners at the corners, the Mustangs went back to the same play. This time, an errant throw to third and a second errant throw coming home went into the dugout allowed both runners to score for a 5-1 lead.
A Kevin Kopas single, walk, passed ball and wild pitch stretched the lead to 6-1 in the fifth.
Michael Gallagher (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) and Grantland put together back-to-back one-out singles in the seventh before a balk and Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) single to left made it a 6-2 game and chased starter Michael Remeiksis after 6 1/3 innings and five strikeouts.
A walk and Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) sacrifice fly made it a 6-3 game.
The Green Terror put two runners on the eighth thanks to a pair of errors but could not push anything across.
Brad Thaxton (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) worked the first six innings, fanning a season-best seven.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Haverford on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m.
