Griest records four hits in comeback win

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. – McDaniel rallied from a 12-3 deficit to defeat Hood 16-12 in 10 innings in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday.

Tim Griest (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) led the Green Terror (8-8) with a 4-for-5 day at the plate, adding four RBIs and four runs scored that included a double and his first career home run.

Josh Gall led the Blazers (5-11) with three hits and three RBIs.

Trailing 12-3 entering the sixth inning, Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) and Griest recorded back-to-back one-out singles to cut the deficit to 12-4.

After Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) was hit by a two-out pitch, Mike Dunn (Lanham, Md./DeMatha) tripled down the line to cut the margin to 12-6.

Griest led off the eighth with a home run to spark a five-run frame.

Tom Daly (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) and O'Shea each singled to force a pitching change.

After a hit batsman loaded the bases, Michael Gallagher (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) lined out to center for the second out, scoring Daly.

Back-to-back doubles from Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) and Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) made it a 12-11 game.

Griest led off the ninth with an infield single before Daly bunted him to second.

After a strikeout, Dunn singled up the middle to plate Griest with the tying run.

With two on and two outs in the top of the 10th, Valori singled up the middle to break the tie. Griest followed with a two-run double down the right-field line and Daly singled him home for the final margin.

After a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth, three Green Terror pitchers combined to retire 15 straight batters to end the game. Zach Fortuna (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) pitched the final three innings to earn the win.

Hood jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first before McDaniel tied it in the top of the second. Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) had a two-run single to cap the frame.

A Drake Friend two-run triple and doubles by Nathan Kessler and Josh Greenberg keyed a seven-run third inning for the Blazers.

Gall had a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth for the 12-3 lead.

Daly and Dunn recorded three hits on the day while Rosanova, Gallagher, Valori and O'Shea all had a pair of knocks.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Stevenson on Thursday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
