Nelson notches three hits, four RBIs in win

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored eight runs in the first two innings to ignite a 22-1 victory over Penn State-York in non-conference baseball action on Monday.

Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) led the Green Terror (7-8) with a 3-for-4 day, adding four RBIs and three runs scored. Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) matched Neslon with three hits, four RBIs and three runs scored before both were lifted in the sixth inning after the squad took a 14-0 lead.

Austin Lehman led the Lions (2-2) with a hit and walk.

Michael Gallagher (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the first before Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) drove a 3-1 pitch to left field for a two-run home run.

A Nelson single and Valori triple stretched the lead to 3-0 before Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) singled home Valori to cap the four-run frame.

A two-out walk to Gallagher, stolen base and Grantland single put runners at the corners in the scond.

Nelson, Valori and Morris all followed with singles of their own. Morris's single was a ball down the line and the throw sailed to score Valori for an 8-0 lead.

With a runner at first and two outs om the fifth after an Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) sacrifice fly, a flip to attempt to get the lead runner for the third out sailed into right field and opened the way for five unearned runs.

Nelson had the big blow with a bases-loaded triple.

After allowing a single and walk in the first, Robbie Mays (Parkton, Md./Hereford) settled in and retired 10 straight batters before a leadoff single in the sixth. Mays finished the sixth inning and ended the day with seven strikeouts to improve to 3-0 on the year.

A two-run Brad Thaxton (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) double stretched the lead to 16-0 in the seventh.

After a bases-loaded walk in the eighth broke up the shutout, a Sam Brustad (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) two-run double keyed another six-run frame to set the final margin.

Grantland, Morris, Thaxton and Brustad all had two-hit days.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Stevenson on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
