Quattrone records goal, three caused turnovers

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford scored the final five goals of the game to cap an 18-11 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse opener for both teams on Saturday.

Megan Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) led the Green Terror (4-4, 0-1 CC) with three caused turnovers to go with a first-half goal. Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) led the attack with three-goal outings.

Allie Gibbons led the Fords (5-3, 1-0 CC) with six goals while Sarina Manetta added five markers. Julia Manetta chipped in three goals and six assists.

Julia Manetta opened the scoring with a free-position goal just 1:45 into the contest before Abby Phillips (New Freedom, Pa./North Harford [Md.]) responded with a free-position tally of her own 1:08 later.

Sarina Manetta bookended a three-goal run over nearly a nearly six-minute stretch to take a 4-1 lead with 20:32 to play. Gibbons tallied the middle goal of the span.

A Farrell free-position goal cut the deficit to 4-2 but Sarah Svetec and Gibbons pushed the lead out to 6-3 midway through the half.

Solo runs by Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldsfield) and Quattrone trimmed the margin back to 7-5 with 8:32 to play in the opening period before Julia Manetta scored with 6:52 showing to make it an 8-5 game at the break.

Haverford netted the first three goals of the second half to take an 11-5 advantage just 7:51 into the stanza.

After Farrell and Sarina Manetta traded tallies, Geiger scored back-to-back goals to make it a 12-8 game with 18:12 to play.

Gibbons responded 42 seconds later but then Farrell capped her hat trick to started a three-goal run that trimmed the deficit to 13-11 with 9:29 to play.

Gibbons final three goals keyed the final five-goal run to set the final margin.

The Green Terror returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
