Geiger records hat trick in victory

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel outscored Albright 6-3 in the second half to capture an 11-10 non-conference women's lacrosse victory on Saturday.

Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) led the Green Terror (2-2) with three goals, including the game-winner with 2:41 to play.

Sophie Bass paced the Lions (3-2) with five goals and one assist.

Trailing 8-5 after Bass netted her fourth of the day just 1:59 into the second half, Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldsfield) wrapped around from the right side and finished 28 seconds later.

Back-to-back Megan Kotelchuck (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton) goals just shy of two minutes apart tied the game with 22:37 on the clock.

Just 1:23 later, Abby Phillips (New Freedom, Pa./North Harford [Pa.]) finished a Brownawell pass to give McDaniel its first lead since 2-0 in the first minute.

A Corinne Donohue free-position goal tied the game at 9-all with 19:44 to play.

Megan Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) rebounded her own free-position shot and finished for a 10-9 edge with 15:43 to play.

Bass converted on an eight-meter shot of her own nearly five minutes later to even the game at 10-all.

Geiger powered down the center of the field and found the back of the net for the game-winning tally.

Geiger and Phillips each finished Kotelchuck passes in the game's first minute for a 2-0 lead before two Bass goals keyed a 5-0 run over a 12-minute, 54-second stretch that gave the visitors a 5-2 lead with 15:29 to play in the opening half.

Goals from Geiger and Brownawell trimmed the deficit to 5-4 with 9:47 on the clock before Devon Mela pushed the lead back to two just 50 seconds later.

Phillips convertd the third of three Kotelchuck assists with 5:34 to play in the opening half before Bass extended the lead back to two with 1:45 remaining.

Allison Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) led the defense with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Geiger added six draw controls to her hat trick.

The Green Terror returns to action at Hollins on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
