Gallagher records three hits in season-opening split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – McDaniel was limited to just four hits in the opener before exploding for 14 in game two to earn a split at St. Mary's (Md.) in non-conference baseball action on Sunday.

The Green Terror (1-1) dropped its season opener 4-1 before bouncing back with five first-inning runs in game two to key a 13-3 victory.

Michael Gallagher (Coatesville, Pa./Dowingtown West) led McDaniel with three hits, including one of five with multiple-hit games in the nightcap.

Zach Thompson went the distance for the Seahawks (4-4) in game one, striking out seven against just one walk and four hits.

Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) reached on an error to lead off game two before Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) was hit by a pitch.

An Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) triple staked the Green Terror to a 2-0 lead.

Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) followed with an RBI single to left before a Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Wahsington Twp.) two-run home run capped the five-run frame before St. Mary's recorded an out.

A Jay Hammett double scored Lucas Kraft with one out to get the Seahawks on the board in the bottom of the frame. A bases-loaded Benett Garner sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 5-2.

St. Mary's once again loaded the bases in the bottom of the second before a Zach Rowe sacrifice fly made it a 5-3 game.

An error on a Gallagher sacrifice attempt after back-to-back walks to start the third inning opened the way for a four-run inning.

Evna Finch (Laurel, Md./St. John's College) recorded his first collegiate hit and RBI to plate Kaleb Reitz (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) before Mike Dunn (Lanham, Md./DeMatha) followed with an RBI single of his own.

A Finch two-run double in the fourth keyed another four-run frame to push the lead to 10.

Finch finished game two with three hits while Grantland, Nelson, Valori and Gallagher all had two each.

Brad Thaxton (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) pitched the first four innings to pick up the win.

In the opener, Kraft singled through the left side with one out in the third before stealing second and scoring on a Hammett two-out single for a 1-0 St. Mary's lead.

With one out in the fifth, Timmy Prenger walked and Kraft was hit by a pitch. An error allowed Prenger to score and put runners at the corners.

Back-to-back singles from Hammett and Sean Goodie pushed the lead to 4-0.

Rosanova led off the top of the sixth with a single to left before stealing second and scoring on a O'Shea single to center for McDaniel's lone run.

The Green Terror returns to action at Lancaster Bible on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 12 p.m.
