LANCASTER, Pa. – Paul Van Nevel (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) was part of three program records to lead McDaniel at the 2017 Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming championship hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Scoring:
- The Green Terror finished seventh with 216 points. Swarthmore claimed its first conference title with 720 points, outdistancing Gettysburg by 120 points at the seventh-team championship.
Night Warriors: The following athletes advanced to the finals at the championship:
- Paul Van Nevel qualified 11th in the 200 IM on Friday with a time of 1:57.05. In the B Finals, he finished 11th with a time of 1:57.23. On Saturday, he qualified fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.57 seconds. In the A Finals, he finished fifth with a time of 52.42 seconds. On Sunday, he qualified sixth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.45. In the A Finals, he finished fifth with a time of 1:54.72.
- Andrew Gottfried (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) qualified 12th in the 400 IM on Saturday with a time of 4:19.43. In the B Finals, he finished 12th with a time of 4:17.15. On Sunday, he qualified 10th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.73. In the B Finals, he finished 13th with a time of 1:58.71.
- Justin Allen (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) qualified sixth in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday with a time of 58.00 seconds. In the A Finals, he finished fifth with a time of 57.98 seconds. On Sunday, he qualified sixth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.96. In the A Finals, he finished seventh with a time of 2:10.79.
- Adam Halmy (Shenandoah, Texas/College Park) qualified 16th in the 100 backstroke on Saturday with a time of 56.12 seconds. In the B Finals, he finished 15th with a time of 55.67 seconds.
Record Setting Performance: The following athletes established a record at the championship:
- The 400 medley relay of Paul Van Nevel, Justin Allen, Grayson Blanchard (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) and Adam Halmy turned in a program-record time of 3:32.17.
- Paul Van Nevel turned in a program-record performance in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.42 seconds, resetting his record from the morning prelims.
- Van Nevel also turned in a program-record performance in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.72.
- Andrew Gottfried turned in a program-record performance in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.71, resetting his record from the morning prelims.
- The 200 medley relay of Paul Van Nevel, Justin Allen, Grayson Blanchard and Adam Halmy turned in a program-record performance with a time of 1:36.16, finishing sixth.
Top 10 Worthy: The following athletes achieved a mark that ranks in the program's all-time top 10:
- Brandon Loehmer (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) now ranks sixth in the 500 free, finishing 19th (4:53.12).
- Loehmer also now ranks eighth in the 200 free, finishing 22nd (1:47.47).
- Loehmer also now ranks fourth in the 1650 free, finishing 16th (17:12.46).
- Paul Van Nevel now ranks second in the 200 IM (1:57.05).
- Andrew Gottfried now ranks eighth in the 200 IM (2:01.66).
- Gottfried also now ranks fourth in the 400 IM (4:17.15).
- Grayson Blanchard now ranks eighth in the 50 free (22.32).
- Blanchard also now ranks fourth in the 100 butterfly, finishing 17th (53.71).
- The 200 free relay of Grayson Blanchard, Adam Halmy, Owen Long (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and Justin Allen now ranks fourth, finishing seventh (1:28.80).
- The 800 free relay of Andrew Gottfried, Paul Van Nevel, Michael Brant and Brandon Loehmer now ranks eighth, finishing seventh (7:23.96).
- Adam Halmy now ranks 10th in the 100 free, finishing 27th (49.70).
- The 400 free relay of Greyson Blanchard, Paul Van Nevel, Adam Halmy and Justin Allen now ranks 10th, finishing seventh (3:16.88).
