Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Pa. – McDaniel scored five runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 7-1 victory over Washington (Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Friday.
Kaleb Reitz (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) keyed capped the big first inning for the 22nd-ranked Green Terror (21-3, 2-2 CC), blasting his first career home run over the right-field fence as part of his two-hit afternoon.
Bryan Baquer led the Shoremen (17-4-1, 1-1 CC) with three hits and scored the hosts' lone run.
Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led off the first inning with a four-pitch walk before a Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) followed with a single through the left side to put runners at the corners.
Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) followed with a single of his own for a 1-0 lead before a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position.
Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) followed with a single to center field that scored both runners for a 3-0 advantage.
Reitz then lifted a ball to right field into a strong wind for the two-run roundtripper and 5-0 lead.
Zach Kronick (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) went to work from there, striking out 10 batters and scattering just six hits over the next seven innings.
Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) led off the eighth inning with a single before a fielder's choice on a bunt attempt erased the sophomore.
With two outs, Bahr blasted a shot off the right-field foul pole to stretch the lead to 7-0.
Baquer led off the home half of the inning with a single before a one-out Evan Hirschbaum double and error loaded the bases.
A Charlie Meder sacrifice fly plated Baquer and ended Kronick's day.
Zachary Fortuna (Metuchen, N.J./Methuchen) retired four of the next five batters to finish the victory.
Windisch, Bahr and Valori all added two hits each.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Sunday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m.
