Windisch records three hits, fans 11

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington (Md.) scored three runs in the top of first and never trailed, defeating McDaniel 6-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Tuesday.

The starting battery of Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) and Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) combined for six of the 10 hits for the 22nd-ranked Green Terror (20-3, 1-2 CC) with each recording three singles. Windisch also fanned 11 batters in seven innings of work.

Matt Tancredi went 4-for-5 to lead the Shoremen (17-3-1, 1-0 CC) from the leadoff spot in the order.

Tancredi led off the game with a single before a one-out Bryan Baquer double put runners at second and third.

After a passed ball scored Tancredit, Evan Hirschbaum launched a two-out, two-run home run for a 3-0 advantage.

Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the frame before a stolen base and Windisch single cut the deficit to 3-1.

After Bahr drew a walk, a sacrifice bunt attempt turned into a double play to qualm the threat.

Both pitchers worked in and out of trouble over the next five innings before an error allowed Joe Lozupone to reach base to lead off the top of the seventh.

McDaniel retired the lead runner on the ensuing bunt attempt but a Tancredi double stretched the lead to 4-1.

A two-out walk and Aaron Barclay single made it a 5-1 game.

Three straight singles from Windisch, Bahr and Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) trimmed the deficit to 5-2

After a walk loaded the bases and chased starting pitcher Brian Kasey, Mike Bartels came on and recorded a strikeout to strand all three runners.

The Shoremen tacked on a run in the ninth on a Baquer double, passed ball and Barclay sacrifice fly.

Kasey fanned six in his winning effort while Bartels earned the save.

McDaniel concludes the home-and-home series at Washington (Md.) on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
