Box Score 2 LANCASTER, Pa. – McDaniel and Franklin & Marshall split a doubleheader in the Centennial Conference (CC) opener for both teams on Sunday.
The 24th-ranked Green Terror (20-2, 1-1 CC) reached 20 wins for the third time in the last five seasons with a 6-2 game-one win before the Diplomats (10-11, 1-1 CC) responded with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap.
Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) recorded three hits on the afternoon for McDaniel, which had its winning streak snapped a program-best 12 games in game two.
David Iacobucci led Franklin & Marshall with six hits in the twinbill.
In the opener, the Green Terror plated three runs in the top of the third inning to open the scoring. Kaleb Reitz (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) led off the inning with a single to right field before moving to second on a sacrifice.
An Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) infield single put runners at second and third before both runners stole a base to make it second and third with one out.
Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) followed with a single to score Reitz before Rosanova and Sivo stole third and second, respectively. A Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) RBI groundout doubled the lead.
Bahr made it three straight batters to produce a run, scoring Sivo for a 3-0 advantage.
A Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) single, wild pitch and Reitz RBI groundout stretched the lead to 4-0 an inning later.
Windisch singled with one out in the fifth and moved to second on a throwing error. A wild pitch and walk put runners on the corners with one out.
The Green Terror executed a double steal to produce a run before Bahr scored on an Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) two-out single to take a 6-0 lead.
Tyler Daley led off the bottom of the fifth with a bunt single before a collision at first base on an errant throw allowed him to take second.
After Daley moved to third on a groundout, he was able to score on a Reed Williams RBI groundout. Three straight singles cut the deficit to 6-2 but Zach Kronick (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) worked out of further trouble in the inning en route to a seven-inning, seven-strikeout victory on the mound.
Sivo and Valori each had two hits in the opener.
In game two, a Grantland two-run double with two outs in the top of the first staked the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
Jimmy Whelan doubled with one out in the bottom of the third inning before moving to third on a groundout and scoring on an Iacobucci single to the gap.
Matt Mezansky followed with a double, plating Iacobucci to tie the game before scoring on a Luke Seib single for a 3-2 edge.
Three singles stretched the lead to 4-2 in the fifth a Whelan leadoff double an inning later keyed a two-run frame.
A Sivo one-out triple and Windisch RBI knock up the middle cut the deficit to 6-3 in the top of the seventh.
Bahr and Windisch had two hits each in the nightcap.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
