Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg scored eight runs in the top of the first inning to key a 17-6 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Wednesday.
Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) led the Green Terror (27-8, 8-7 CC) with two hits, including a seventh-inning two-run home run. With the loss, McDaniel remains one game out of the fourth and final playoff spot with three games to play.
Henry Klimowicz paced the Bullets (24-12-1, 10-4-1 CC) with a 5-for-6 day at the plate.
With one out in the top of the first, Logan Sneed started a parade of four straight singles to stake Gettysburg to an early 2-0 lead.
With runners at the corners, the McDaniel defense elected to come home but Klimowicz beat the throw home to make it a 3-0 game.
After an Andrew Hourigan walk loaded the bases, Shawn Moffitt went deep for a grand slam and 7-0 lead.
John Convery reached on a bunt single before stealing second and scoring on a two-out Sneed triple to cap the big first inning.
A Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) double, groundout and Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) sacrifice fly made it an 8-1 game in the bottom of the frame.
Klimowicz led off the second with a double before a Steve Wright single and pair of errors helped lead to two more runs and a 10-2 lead.
Four straight singles, including a two-run Kaleb Reitz (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) single, with two outs in the fourth cut the deficit to 10-4.
A Klimowicz triple capped a two-run fifth that stretched the lead to 12-4 before Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) led off the seventh with a single and Rosanova followed with a two-run blast to return the deficit to six.
The Bullets tacked on three runs in the seventh and two in the ninth for the final margin.
O'Shea joined Rosanova with two hits.
McDaniel concludes the home-and-home series at Gettysburg on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
