Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. – McDaniel needed an extra day and a second trip but rallied late to complete a doubleheader sweep of Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Sunday.
The Green Terror (27-7, 8-6 CC) took game one 7-2 before winning game two 7-5 to enter the final week of the regular season one game out of the fourth and final playoff spot.
Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) led McDaniel with five hits on the day.
Wesley Fishburn paced the Garnet (20-16, 4-10 CC) with four hits.
Doubles from Ryan Burnett and Roy Walker staked Swarthmore to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of game one.
Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led off the top of the fifth with a double down the line before scoring on a Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) groundout to tie the game.
A Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) single up the middle, stolen base and Bahr triple put the Green Terror in front in the sixth before Charles Levitt led off the bottom of the frame with a home run to tie the game once again.
Kaleb Reitz (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) responded with a leadoff home run of his own in the seventh before Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) was hit by a one-out pitch, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk for a 4-2 edge.
A two-run Reitz single keyed a three-run eighth inning for the final margin.
Zach Kronick (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) fanned seven in seven innings for the win before Zachary Fortuna (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) finished the final two innings with five strikeouts, allowing just an infield single.
Bahr and Reitz each had two hits while Valori added three knocks in game one.
Trailing 5-4 entering the ninth inning of game two, Rosanova led off the frame with a single before a pair of errors put runners at second and third.
The Garnet elected to intentionally walk Windisch to load the bases with no one out. Bahr was then hit by a pitch to force in Rosanova with the tying run.
After a pair of strikeouts, Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) singled to score Sivo and Windisch for a 7-5 lead.
Fishburn and Walker each singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth before a sacrifice moved the tying runs into scoring position. Windisch, however, got a strikeout an popup to pick up the win on the mound, allowing just one run in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
A hit batsman and bunt singles by Steven Matos-Torres and Cal Barnett-Mayotte loaded the bases in the bottom of the third. The Green Terror got a double play and escaped the inning allowing just one run.
Singles by Bahr and Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) and a pair of errors opened up the floodgates for four unearned runs in the top of the fourth.
O'Shea had the big blow with a two-run double down the line.
Unearned runs in the fifth and sixth tied the game at 4-all before Walker had a one-out home run in the seventh for a 5-4 edge.
Bahr had three hits in game two while O'Shea added a pair.
