Rosanova smacks first home run in victory

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored nine times in the first inning en route to a 20-7 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Thursday.

Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) was among eight of the starters for the Green Terror (25-7, 6-6 CC) with multiple-hit days, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs that included his first collegiate home run in the second inning. With the victory, McDaniel recorded its first series sweep of the conference schedule and scored the most runs in a CC game since 2008.

Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) led the 20-hit attack with a 5-for-6 day at the plate.

Phil Wenger went 2-for-3 to lead the Red Devils (17-15, 4-8 CC), who had five players with two hits.

Sean Sivo led off the bottom of the first with a walk before stealing second. Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) grounded a ball back to the Dickinson pitcher, who attempted to get the lead runner but Sivo beat the throw to third.

Bahr singled up the middle to score Sivo for a 1-0 lead.

With one out, a fielding error and Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) double made it a 4-0 game.

Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Bahr added RBI singles in the inning while Sivo had a sacrifice fly and Windisch a two-run double to account for the 9-0 lead.

An error and Rosanova two-out home run to left field stretched the advantage to 11-0 in the second.

Five straight one-out singles and an Alex Jacobson sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 11-4 in the top of the third.

A Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) double keyed a three-run response in the bottom of the inning to make it a 14-4 game.

The teams traded a pair of runs in the fourth to make it a 16-6 game.

Doubles from Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.), Rosanova and Sivo in the seventh helped stretch the lead to 20-6 before a Jake Band triple and Brian McCloud RBI groundout set the final score in the ninth.

Windish had three hits and two RBIS while Sivo and Grantland had two hits and three RBIs each. Valori, O'Shea and Rosanova had two hits and two RBIs each.

Zachary Fortuna (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, striking out four and allowing four hits to pick up the win.

McDaniel returns to action at Swarthmore on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m.
