Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored six runs in the sixth inning of game two to forge a split with Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Sunday.
The 22nd-ranked Green Terror (22-4, 3-3 CC) took the nightcap 9-2 to rebound after the Mules (12-12, 3-1 CC) captured game one, 8-4.
Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led McDaniel with four hits on the day. Brad Thaxton (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) went eight strong innings in game two, scattering five hits and striking out four to pick up his third win of the year.
John Icaza led Muhlenberg with five hits on the day, including a 4-for-5 showing in the opening-game victory.
Tied at 2-all with one out in the sixth inning, Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) roped a single up the middle. Valori followed, poking a single through the right side before Kaleb Reitz (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) drew a two-out walk to load the bases.
Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) worked a full count walk to force in Bahr with the tie-breaking run.
Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) sent a ball back up the middle that the Mules got to but on the do-or-die attempt at the force at second, the ball got away allowing two runs to score for a 5-2 lead
A Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) triple pushed the lead to 7-2.
After an Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) walk put runners at the corners, the Green Terror executed its second double steal of the game to cap the big frame.
A fielding error, stolen base and Rosanova single up the middle in the eighth inning set the final margin.
Sivo led off the home first with a walk before taking second on a passed ball and stealing third.
Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) knocked a ball up the first-base line and Sivo beat the throw home for a 1-0 lead.
After a stolen base and wild pitch on a walk to Bahr put runners at the corners, Bahr stole second and Windisch took home for a 2-0 advantage.
Matt Glubiak led off the top of the fourth with a single before scoring on an Icaza double for the only two back-to-back hitters to reach base in the game for Muhlenberg.
A Robbie Hopes sacrifice fly tied the game two batters later.
In addition to Valori's three hits, Sivo and O'Shea had two knocks each in the nightcap.
Scoreless with one out in the top of the fourth of game one, Icaza blasted a solo home run to left field to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead.
An inning later, Jon Capra singled before a Chris Grillo two-out home run to almost the exact same spot made it a 3-0 game.
Icaza led off the sixth with a triple before scoring on an Andrew Rava single for a 4-0 lead.
Valori walked to lead off the home half of the inning before scoring on a Reitz triple. Reitz later came home on an O'Shea sacrifice fly made it a 4-2 game.
A pair of errors in the top of the seventh helped key a four-run inning.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame, Morris roped a pinch-hit single up the middle to score Bahr and Valori for the final margin.
Rosanova had a pair of hits in game one.
McDaniel returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
