Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings en route to a 16-2 victory over Maine-Presque Isle in non-conference baseball action on Thursday.
Michael Gallagher (Coatesville, Pa./Dowingtown West) was one of four starters for the 24th-ranked Green Terror (19-1) with two hits. As a team, the top hitting team in Division III at .385 finished the game with 20 hits, recording double-digit hits for the 15th time this season.
McDaniel extended its winning streak to 11 games, setting a new mark for longest winning streak in program history and closing the non-conference schedule with 19 wins in 20 games.
Matt Cauchon led the Owls (6-15) with two of the team's eight hits.
The Green Terror sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning. Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) walked to lead off the game before stealing second and third during a nine-pitch Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) at bat. Windisch eventually won the battle with a single up the middle to score Sivo.
Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) and Tyler Gilbert (York, Pa./Glen Burnie [Md.]) followed with singles to load the bases. A Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) sacrifice fly scored Windisch before a Gallagher two-out double plated Bahr. Singles from Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) made it a 5-0 game after one inning.
Three walks loaded the bases with two outs in the second inning before Gallagher cleared the bases with a double to the gap. An error stretched the lead to 9-0.
After scoring two more runs in the third, Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) doubled with two outs in the fourth to stretch the lead to 13-0.
A Saul Nunez double and Tommy Collins single up the middle got Presque Isle on the board in the top of the fifth.
Four singles manufactured a run in the bottom of the inning before the Owls got a single run on a Ryan Sanders sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth.
Nick Cogelja (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) led off the eighth with a single before a Colin Franke (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) double put runners at second and third. A Domenic Fierro (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) RBI groundout set the final margin.
Ben Van Put (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) went the first five innings to pick up the win on the mound.
McDaniel opens Centennial Conference play with a doubleheader at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The first game begins at 12:30 p.m.
