Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored seven runs in the sixth inning of both games to key a doubleheader sweep of Penn State-York in non-conference baseball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (17-1) took the opener 8-1 before capping the sweep with a 14-2 victory in game two.
Zach Kronick (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) led McDaniel in game one with 16 strikeouts in the complete-game four-hitter. It was the most strikeouts by a Green Terror pitcher in four years and ranks second in program history.
Tyler Spencer led the Lions (0-6) with a 3-for-3 performance in the nightcap, scoring both of his team's runs.
In the opener, a two-out double from Tyler Gilbert (York, Pa./Glen Burnie [Md.]) scored Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) for a 1-0 lead.
After just two baserunners had reached in the first 5 2/3 innings, Levi Stein roped a double before scoring on a Nicholas Schuler single to tie the game in the top of the sixth.
Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) led off the bottom of the frame with a triple before scoring on a Brad Hampton (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) sacrifice fly for the go-ahead run.
A Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) triple and two-out Bahr double pushed the lead to 3-1.
Gilbert was intentionally walked before Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) singled to plate Bahr. An error opened the door for four more runs to score in the frame.
O'Shea roped his second triple of the innings to cap the seven-run frame.
In game two, Spencer singled to lead off the game before an error put runners at first and second.
Hunter Thomas doubled with two outs to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead.
A Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) double, passed ball and Bahr RBI groundout evened the game in the home half of the inning.
Two walks to lead off the second and an O'Shea bunt single loaded the bases.
Back-to-back singles from Bahr and Gilbert capped a four-run inning.
Three straight one-out singles drew Penn State-York within 5-2 in the top of the fifth before the Green Terror responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Three extra-base hits in the sixth, including a two-run Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) double keyed another seven-run sixth.
Sivo had three hits in game two. Brad Thaxton (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) went five innings on the hill, striking out seven to pick up the win.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Hood on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
