Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. – Babson outscored McDaniel 10-4 after halftime to capture a 17-13 non-conference women's lacrosse victory on Thursday.
Sam Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown), a week after scoring seven goals to garner conference player of the week honors, led the Green Terror (3-4) with six goals.
Kiley Fischer and Julia Harrigan led the Beavers (3-2) with four goals each.
Trailing 9-7 at halftime, Lyndsay Giroux scored twice in a 1-minute, 36-second span to draw Babson even with 27:54 to play.
Just 22 seconds later, Fischer took a pass from MaKenzie Tucci and fired from the right side off the keeper's stick and bounced the ball in for a 10-9 edge.
Barbeito took a Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) pass and finished from short range to tie the game with 27:08 on the clock.
Fischer finished her hat trick with 24:15 to play, putting the Beavers on top for good.
A Harrigan free-position tally with 23:00 showing gave Babson a two-goal advantage.
Quinn finished a solo run to once again make it a one-goal game but Emily Bresnahan stretched the lead back to two just over a minute later.
Harrigan needed just 12 seconds to win the ensuing draw and go straight to goal, making it a 14-11 game with 12:47 to play.
Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldfields) finished a free-position tally with 12:03 to play before Harrigan and Barbeito traded goals 62 seconds apart.
A Fischer goal with 8:29 to play stretched the lead back to three before Bresnahan made it a four-goal game with 3:51 to play and Babson was able to hold possession for the majority of the final minutes.
The teams traded goals through the first 10 minutes before three straight Beaver goals made it a 5-3 game with 15:08 to play.
Barbeito finished a low-to-high pass from her sister Danielle Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) with 10:27 to play in the first half, sparking a four-goal run over the next 6:34.
Tucci closed the deficit to 7-6 but two Barbeito goals around a Fischer solo run made it a 9-7 contest at the break.
Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) registered seven draw controls while Bethany Ray (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) led the defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
McDaniel returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
