Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. – McDaniel shutout Utica in the opener before using a walkoff hit to cap the sweep at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in baseball action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (12-1) won the opener 4-0 before completing the sweep with a 7-6 win behind an Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) walkoff single in the seventh.
Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) led the way for McDaniel with three hits in the twinbill.
Adam Pexton led the Pioneers (0-7) with three hits in game two.
Tied at 6-all with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Tyler Gilbert (York, Pa./Glen Burnie [Md.]) reached on an error before giving way to Logan Seitz (Columbia, Md./Howard) as a pinch-runner.
Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) singled before Grantland drove a ball to center field for the game-winning run.
A Matthew DeMartino double drove in JT Ross to stake Utica to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
A Windisch single and Bahr double evened the game in the bottom of the frame.
Three singles, including a two-run, two-out knock by Pexton put the Pioneers on top, 3-1.
A two-run double by Gilbert with two outs scored a pair of unearned runs in the third to once again even the score.
The Green Terror took advantage of a pair of errors in the fourth to tack on three runs and take a 6-3 lead.
The lead was short lived, however and back-to-back doubles keyed a three-run fifth for Utica.
Singles from Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Bahr around a stolen base and hit batter gave McDaniel a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the opener.
Valori doubled to lead off the sixth before stealing third and scoring on a one-out error.
A Barh sacrifice fly in the seventh helped the Green Terror tack on a pair of insurance runs.
Zach Kronick (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) went the distance with nine strikeouts to notch the game-one win.
McDaniel concludes its eight-game Florida trip against Ripon on Friday. Game time is 1 p.m.
