Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel opened up a 13-5 halftime lead en route to a 19-8 victory over Frostburg in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday.
Samantha Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) led the Green Terror (3-2) with a career-best seven goals, registering the most goals in a single game since Mar. 27, 2013. Barbeito added an assist to finish with a team-high eight points. Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added four goals and two assists.
Emani Byrd led the Bobcats (1-2) with a hat trick while Megan Hart contributed a goal and four assists.
Quinn got the scoring started, winning the opening draw and sprinting directly to goal for a 1-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game.
Byrd wasted no time responding. After Hart won the next draw control, she fed Byrd to knot the game with 29:10 showing.
Back-to-back Barbeito tallies a minute apart gave McDaniel a two-goal advantage that it would not relinquish with 26:41 to play.
Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldfields) converted a free-position goal 20 second later before Quinn found the back of the net for the second time with 25:28 remaining.
Brownawell hit Barbeito for the senior to finish her hat trick just 30 seconds later.
Goals from Megan and Molly Hart 1:45 apart closed the deficit to 6-3 but Quinn and Barbeito scored 24 seconds apart to push the lead back to five with 12:23 showing.
After Taylor Mone found the back of the net with 11:37 to play, the Green Terror reeled off the final four goals of the first half, including Megan Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) taking a pass and juking her defender before sliding right and firing high into the back of the net with 1:00 remaining.
After Barbeito and Byrd traded goals twice over the first 12:04 of the second half, back-to-back Danielle Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) tallies made it a 10-goal game with 9:32 to play.
An Abby Phillips (New Freedom, Pa./North Harford [Md.]) free-position tally and Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) goal stretched the lead to 12 before Morgan Cavey set the final margin.
Quinn added four draw controls to her six points while Farrell won a team-best six draws. Ellie Thompson (Frederick, Md./Brunswick) had four caused turnovers.
McDaniel finished with a 42-18 advantage in shots.
The Green Terror returns to action against No. 9 Amherst in Clermont, Fla., on Tuesday. Game time is 11 a.m.
