Knadler wins three times

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington (Md.) won seven events to capture a 56-39 Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming victory over McDaniel in the dual-meet finale for both teams on Saturday.

Syd Knadler (Crowley Lake, Calif./Mammoth) led the Green Terror (2-8, 1-6 CC) with three wins, including posting the team's fastest times of the season in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Knadler also joined Joanna Wattenberg (Monrovia, Md./Urbana), Kelly Lewis (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) and Samantha Smith (Bangkok, Thailand/International School of Bangkok) to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:53.95. Knadler took the 50 free in a time of 24.49 seconds and the 100 free in a time of 54.72.

Julia Portmann led the Shorewomen (5-6, 2-5 CC) with three wins, touching first in the three longest freestyle events. She won the 1000 free in a time of 11:09.07 before coming back to take the 200 free in a time of 2:02.33. Later in the meet, she recorded a victory in the 500 free with a time of 5:27.03. Ellen Maxwell was also a triple winner for Washington.

Smith added a second victory on the day for McDaniel, winning the 200 IM in a time of 1:44.90.

Wattenberg added a second-place showing in the 100 backstroke, posting her best time of the year with a mark of 1:04.43, while Lewis was second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:37.43.

Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) finished second in the 1000 free (11:13.43) and 500 free (5:29.93).

Wattenberg was third in the 200 free, turning in a time of 2:04.28 for her best time of the year. Lewis added a third-place finish in the 50 free (25.79 seconds) while Smith was third in the 200 IM (2:23.56).

McDaniel returns to action at the CC Championship hosted by Gettysburg on Friday, Feb. 20. Action begins at 11 a.m. on Friday and continues on Saturday and Sunday.
