Barbeito tallies four in season-opening win

TOWSON, Md. – McDaniel scored seven straight goals to start the second half to capture an 11-5 victory over Goucher in women's lacrosse action on Tuesday.

Samantha Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) led the Green Terror (1-0) to a season-opening win with four goals. Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldfields) added two goals and an assist.

Jojo Franklin paced the Gophers (1-1) with two goals and an assist.

Megan Kotelchuck (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton) registered her first tally just 4:13 into her collegiate career to stake McDaniel to a 1-0 lead.

After Franklin evened the score just 1:19 later, Danielle Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) needed just 38 seconds to put the Green Terror back in front before Brownawell and Sam Barbeito scored 52 seconds apart to make it a 4-1 margin with 22:07 to play in the first half.

Dani McCreary made it a 4-2 game with 9:12 on the clock before Sophie Smith finished a solo run with seven ticks remaining to close the deficit to one at the intermission.

Danielle Barbeito found her sister Sam with 18:53 remaining to open a flurry of scoring by the visitors.

Allison Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) converted a free-position attempt 34 seconds later.

Brownawell hit Sam Barbeito to complete the senior's hat trick with 16:35 remaining.

An Olivia Maenner (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) solo marker capped the 3-minute, 11-second run of four goals.

Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) finished an Annemarie Duerr (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) feed for the rookies' first points with 8:15 to play.

Brownawell and Barbeito tallied 57 seconds apart to make it an 11-3 game with 6:14 to play before Stefi Perry and Franklin set the final margin for Goucher in the last 2:48.

McDaniel finished with a 29-15 advantage in shots and won 11 draw controls. Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) led the way in the middle with three draws.

Barbeito and Allison Karloff (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) had five ground balls each while Karloff caused three turnovers.

McDaniel returns to action at home against No. 14 Messiah. Game time is 1 p.m.
