Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg outscored McDaniel 18-10 in the second quarter to build a five-point halftime lead en route to a 73-64 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory on Saturday.
Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Green Terror (20-5, 15-3 CC) with 25 points. With the loss and Muhlenberg's 78-52 win over Ursinus, McDaniel falls to the No. 2 seed in next week's conference tournament. The Mules earn the top seed and will host the semifinals and final on Friday and Saturday. The Green Terror will take on the Bullets (18-5, 12-5 CC) in a rematch in one semifinal. Game times will be announced on Tuesday morning.
Emma Dorshimer paced Gettysburg with 20 points while Jessica Porter added 15 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Trailing 21-10 after Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) hit a 3-pointer with 3:24 to play in the first period, Emily Gibbons hit a layup 30 seconds later to spark a 26-8 run.
Eight straight Bullet points after the Gibbons layup trimmed the margin to 21-20 before Nichols hit an off-balance elbow jumper as time expired to push the lead back to three.
Back-to-back baskets from Porter and Annie Reilly gave the visitors their first lead with 8:31 to play in the second quarter.
Nichols responded with a layup to give the hosts a one-point lead once again but a Kim Ryan 3-pointer and Dorshimer jumper gave Gettysburg a 29-25 lead with 4:39 showing.
A Porter three-point play capped the run with 1:48 remaining until halftime.
Four Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) points around a Reilly putback made it a 38-33 game at the break.
Gibbons and Porter extended the lead to nine just 34 seconds into the third quarter.
Trailing 46-37, Nichols drained a triple and Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) hit a layup to trim the margin to four with 4:58 showing.
A Porter 3-pointer and Gibbons jumper helped stretch the lead back to nine en route to a 54-46 lead after three quarters.
A Porter second-chance layup gave the Bullets a 60-50 lead for its largest advantage with 7:33 to play. McDaniel was able to close the deficit to five on two occasions but could get no closer.
Zeps finished with 10 points and six rebounds while Davis added eight points, five rebounds and five assists. Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) chipped in eight points and five steals.
