Allen wins pair of races

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Justin Allen (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) won twice to lead McDaniel at Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming action on Saturday.

Scoring:

  • The Bears (2-0, 2-0 CC) defeated the Green Terror (0-2, 0-2 CC) by a score of 122-74.

Head of the Class: The following athletes won multiple events at the meet:

  • Justin Allen won two times. He also touched first in the 100 butterfly (54.20 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (59.96 seconds).

Striking Gold: The following athletes won a single event at the meet:

Precious Metal: The following athletes finished second or third in an event at the meet:

  • Paul Van Nevel (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville), Andrew Gottfried (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) and Grayson Blanchard (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) joined Justin Allen to finish second in the 200 medley relay (1:38.61).
  • Paul Van Nevel also finished second in the 200 IM (2:02.23) and 100 backstroke (54.08 seconds).
  • Grayson Blanchard finished second in the 100 free (50.33 seconds). He was also third in the 200 free (1:55.95).
  • Sam Simacek was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.06).
  • Owen Long finished third in the 50 free (24.07 seconds)
  • Andrew Gottfried finished third in the 100 butterfly (55.02 seconds).
  • Jeremy Simon (Melville, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills East) was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.13).

Top 10 Worthy: The following athletes achieved a mark that ranks in the program's all-time top 10:

For the Foes: The following Ursinus athletes won events at the meet:

  • William Benn, Devon Nielsen, Colin McNamara and Travis Venables won the 200 medley relay (1:37.76).
  • Colin McNamara also won the 100 free (49.99 seconds).
  • William Benn also won the 100 backstroke (53.80 seconds).
  • Casey Lear won the 200 free (1:48.14) and 500 free (4:57.45).
  • Daniel Powell won the 1000 free (10:18.95).
  • Jared Krawetz won the 50 free (23.09 seconds).
  • Jake Menzer won the 200 IM (1:59.87).

Next Up: The Green Terror returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Wednesday. Meet time is 7 p.m.
