Box Score WESTMINSTER, Pa. – Messiah, ranked 14th in the latest NSCAA Div. III coaches' poll, was able to break through in the 104th minute to top McDaniel 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday.
Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Green Terror (10-1) with a season-high 10 saves in goal.
Sunny Geinovatch scored the game-winner for the Falcons (9-2), bouncing a close-range shot off the crossbar and in with 6:04 remaining in the second and final overtime.
Skyler Ulry sent the ball in from the right side of the field and Geinovatch was able to volley the ball up and bounce it off the crossbar for the game's lone tally.
Messiah had numerous quality opportunities to finish the game early, including a high shot by Marisa Weaver from the left wing that McDonald was able to tip just high with a minute to play in the first overtime.
McDaniel's best look came from Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) midway through the first 10-minute extra session. The sophomore sent a ball in from the right side that drifted just wide in the 95th minute. The Green Terror had two more attempts in the next minute but could not convert.
The Falcons finished with a 17-5 advantage in shots and 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The goal snapped McDaniel's program- and conference-record shutout streak at 942 minutes, 5 seconds and handed the Green Terror its first loss of the season.
McDaniel returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
