WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College women's soccer team posted its fourth-straight shutout and second in-a-row at home with a 5-0 victory over Haverford at the Soccer Complex on Senior Day.
The Green Terror (9-2-4, 5-1-2 CC) remained unbeaten in seven home games this season while picking up their sixth shutout. The team has posted a record of 5-0-2 at home while outscoring its opponents, 15-1.
McDaniel's five goals were the most for the team since they had six in a 6-1 victory at Muhlenberg on Sept. 17, 2022.
First-year
Hariette Ngwatung continued her stellar rookie season, totaling a career-high five points with two goals and one assist as she recorded the first multi-goal game of her career. She is tied for the team-leading in goals, assists, and points with sophomore
Alaina Miller as both have six goals, four assists, and 16 points.
Four of Ngwatung's six goals this season have been game-winners, including her first goal today in the 32nd minute off an assist from junior
Mackenzie Bott. The assist marked the first career point in 43 games for Bott who has been a constant for the Green Terror on defense the last three seasons.
The goal came after the starting goalkeeper for the Fords (6-5-3, 1-4-2 CC), Allie Billups, received a red card for a physical tackle outside of the box in the 15th minute and had to leave the game. Billups is tied for the conference lead with seven shutouts this season and also ranks third in saves and sixth in goals-against average.
McDaniel would add its second goal with just under two minutes remaining in the first half when junior
Gabriella Piantadosi scored her first goal of the season off a feed from senior
Peyton Viggiano. Like Bott, it was the first career point for Viggiano who has appeared in 66 career games with 56 starts on defense the last four seasons.
Leading 2-0, Ngwatung scored her second goal less than four minutes into the second half. She then assisted on the team's fourth goal scored by senior
Carly Brock in the 57th minute.
Brock, who totaled one goal and seven assists for nine points over her first three seasons, now has four goals, four assists, and 12 points in her final season.
The Green Terror capped the scoring with 1:22 remaining as first-year
Madisyn Aurigemma scored on a cross from sophomore
Ava Campanaro.
With Bott, Viggiano, and Campanaro picking up assists, the Green Terror now have 15 players who have scored at least one point this season.
The defense, which saw three goalies see action on Saturday, posted their 11th shutout in 15 games this season after holding Haverford to just five shots, including only one on goal.
With just two games remaining in the regular season, McDaniel sits in a three-way for second in the Centennial Conference standings with Swarthmore and Dickinson as each team has 17 points. The Green Terror host Dickinson next Saturday, Oct. 24. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
