SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Justin Allen (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) won twice to lead McDaniel at Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming opener for both teams on Saturday.

Scoring:

• The Garnet (1-0, 1-0 CC) defeated the Green Terror (0-1, 0-1 CC) by a score of 145-59.

Head of the Class: The following athletes won multiple events at the meet:

• Justin Allen won two times. He was part of the 200 medley relay that won with a time of 1:39.15. He also touched first in the 100 breaststroke (59.43 seconds).
• Grayson Blanchard (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) was also part of the winning 200 medley relay. He also touched first in the 100 butterfly (54.26 seconds).

Striking Gold: The following athletes won a single event at the meet:

• Paul Van Nevel (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) and Andrew Gottfried (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) joined Justin Allen and Grayson Blanchard on the winning 200 medley relay.

Precious Metal: The following athletes finished second or third in an event at the meet:

• Paul Van Nevel finished second in the 200 IM (2:01.78).
• Andrew Gottfried finished third in the 100 butterfly (55.04 seconds).
• The 200 free relay of Brandon Loehmer (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock), Brandon Bond (Hebron, Md./Mardela), Owen Long (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and Michael Brant (Wilmington, Del./Cab Calloway School of the Arts) finished third with a time of 1:38.81.

Top 10 Worthy: The following athletes achieved a mark that ranks in the program's all-time top 10:

• The 200 medley relay (Paul Van Nevel, Justin Allen, Andrew Gottfried, Grayson Blanchard) now ranks fifth all-time (1:39.15).
• Grayson Blanchard now ranks fifth all-time in the 100 butterfly (54.26 seconds).
• Andrew Gottfried now ranks eighth all-time in the 100 butterfly (55.04 seconds).

For the Foes: The following Swarthmore athletes won events at the meet:

• Andrew Steele won the 50 free (21.70 seconds) and 100 free (48.38).
• Michael Lutzker won the 1000 free (10:00.51) and 500 free (4:50.91).
• Jeffrey Tse won the 200 free (1:47.58).
• Gabe Caldwell won the 200 IM (2:01.13).
• Liam Fitzstevens won the 100 back (53.05 seconds).
• Steve Sekula, Tse, Nigel Van Ha and Charles Yang won the 200 free relay (1:28.66).
