Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored just 1:55 into the season en route to a 3-0 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) in season-opening women's soccer action on Tuesday.
Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Green Terror (1-0), who won its season opener for the fourth straight year.
Sydney Larkin made two saves in net for the Seahawks (0-1), who finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots.
Freshman Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) created the first opportunity of the season in just the second minute, sending a ball towards the net from the right side. Larkin was able to make the initial diving save but Hill was there to collect the rebound and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the 52nd minute, Hill returned the favor. She played a ball from right to left in front of the goal and Gibson was on the back post, sliding to get a foot on the ball and put it into the left side of the net for a 2-0 lead.
In the 90th minute, Hill drew the keeper out to the top of the box and beat her to finish on a wide-open net for the final margin.
Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) made five saves to pick up a shutout in the opener.
The Green Terror finished with an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
McDaniel returns to action at the Gettysburg Cup, playing Scranton on Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m.
