Valori records two hits

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 5-0 lead en route to a 12-5 victory over McDaniel in the first elimination game of the 2015 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball tournament on Saturday.

Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) recorded two hits to lead the third-seeded Green Terror (18-14), who will find out on Monday if its season continues with an ECAC bid.

Thomas Mee went 4-for-4 to lead the top-seeded Blue Jays (24-10-1), who also defeated Haverford to exact revenge in a second elimination game and advance to Sunday's championship against Franklin & Marshall.

Conor Reynolds led off the bottom of the first with a single before Chris Casey singled to put two runners on base.

After an error, a Colin McCarthy RBI groundout plated Reynolds for a 1-0 lead.

A Brian Lin leadoff single in the second, stolen base and Mee single put runners at second and third with one out.

A Reynolds sacrifice fly doubled the advantage before Craig Hoelzer drew a one-out walk in the third and scored on a Mike Smith two-out single for a 3-0 lead.

A Mee single, Reynolds double and Casey sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 5-0 in the fourth.

Valori led off the fifth with a single before a Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) double and Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) RBI single dented the scoreboard for McDaniel in the top of the fifth.

A Mee double and Mitch Weaver two-run single keyed a four-run bottom of the inning, however, to push the lead to 9-1.

The Blue Jays tacked on three runs in the seventh for a 12-1 lead.

Valori led off the ninth with a single before pinch-runner Chad Nazelrod (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) stole second and scored on a Hayward single.

PJ Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) followed with an infield hit and Drew Phillips (Sherwood, Md./St. Michael's) drew a walk to load the bases.

Sivo plated Hayward with an RBI groundout before an error allowed Anderson and Phillips to score and set the final margin.

Hayward also finished with two hits.
