Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored four runs in the final two innings to rally for a 4-3 victory over McDaniel in the first round of the 2015 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball tournament on Thursday.
Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) recorded two hits, including an RBI double, to lead the Green Terror (18-13), who had its nine-game winning streak snapped and fell to the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament. McDaniel, the No. 3 seed, will face top-seeded Johns Hopkins in Saturday's first elimination game at 9 a.m. in Baltimore. The Diplomats (26-10) take on Haverford – an 11-4 winner in the day's other first-round game – in the winner's bracket game following on Saturday.
Casey Bulik had the walkoff hit for second-seeded Franklin & Marshall, roping a ball into center field that scored Brian Erb, standing.
Erb led off the ninth inning of the tie game with a single back up the middle before Brett Poniros sacrificed him to second base.
Trailing 3-0, Matt Mezansky and Luke Seib drew one-out walks in the bottom of the eighth.
After a flyout, David Iacobucci singled to load the bases before Mike Smeriglio roped a ball to left field that was bobbled near the fence, allowing all three runners to score and tie the game.
Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led off the top of the fourth inning with a double down the left-field line before taking third on a wild pitch.
After a flyout to right was not deep enough to score Windisch, Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) drove a ball to deep center for a sacrifice fly, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) followed with a double before an infield single put runners at the corners and Hayward doubled to drive in Valori for a 2-0 advantage.
Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) reached on an infield single to lead off the fifth before stealing both second and third bases and scoring on a Windisch sacrifice fly.
