Rosanova notches four hits in sweep

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – McDaniel rallied with three runs in the eighth inning to complete a doubleheader sweep of Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday.

The Green Terror (18-12, 11-7 CC) took game one 8-2 to secure a spot in the upcoming conference tournament before completing the sweep and earning the No. 3 seed with a 5-3 win in game two. McDaniel will travel to Franklin & Marshall for the opening game of the double-elimination tournament. Top-seeded Johns Hopkins will host Haverford in the other semifinal with all four teams continuing play at Johns Hopkins on Saturday and Sunday.

Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) recorded four hits, including bases-clearing double in the eighth inning of game two.

Timo Muro led the Bears (17-15, 7-11 CC) with three hits.

Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) and Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) led off the fourth inning with a singles before moving up a base on a sacrifice.

After Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Rosanova singled to center field to score Valori with the game's first run.

Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) reached on an error that allowed two more runs to score before Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) singled home Rosanova for a 4-0 lead.

A Hayward single, stolen base and two-out Rosanova knock stretched the lead to 5-0 in the fifth.

A two-out error in the bottom of the fifth allowed Austin Kurey and Vincent Terry, who both singled earlier in the inning, to score and cut the deficit to 5-2.

Valori led off the seventh with a single before an error, Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) single and run-scoring double play stretched the lead to 7-2.

The Green Terror tacked on another run in the eighth on a Sivo walk, stolen base and Windsich double.

Rosanova and Hayward led the way in the opener with three hits each while Windsich had two plus struck out six to pick up the win on the mound. Valiri also had two knocks.

Trailing 3-0, Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) led off the sixth inning of game two with a double down the line before Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) singled and a fielder's choice allowed Bahr to score to make it a 3-1 game.

O'Shea and Rosanova each drew walks to lead off the seventh before a Sivo single loaded the bases. Windisch followed with a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to one.

Gilbert led off the eighth inning with a walk before being lifted for pinch-runner Chad Nazelrod (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley).

Hayward drew a two-out walk before O'Shea was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Rosanova. The freshman doubled to left field, clearing the bases for the 5-3 lead.

A Muro double and Chris Jablonski single staked Ursinus to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before three straight singles doubled the lead in the fourth.

A Jablonski double, Kieren Geyer single and Devyn Kerr sacrifice fly accounted for the 3-0 lead in the fifth.

Sivo, Bahr and Gilbert all two hits in game two.
