Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel busted out for 30 hits to earn a doubleheader sweep of Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (14-12, 7-7 CC) ran its winning streak to five games and got back to .500 in conference play with an 8-7 win in the opener and 16-7 victory in game two.
Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the way with seven hits on the day, including a four-hit, five-RBI nightcap, where he also pitched six innings for the win.
Wesley Fishburn led the Garnet (17-13, 4-10 CC) with five hits from the leadoff spot.
Tied at 7-all in game one, Windisch led off the bottom of the ninth with a single up the middle before Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) drew a walk.
Jonathan McKinney (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) laid down the sacrifice before Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) drove a 1-1 pitch off the wall in left field for the walkoff hit.
McDaniel jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Windisch and Valori each reached on singles before Kasey Nelson (Denton, Md./St. Michael's) and Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) drove back-to-back doubles to cap the four-run frame.
A two-run Danny McMahon single up the middle capped a four-run third inning that tied the game for Swarthmore.
Back-to-back singles from Scoop Ruxin and Jaron Shrock followed by a sacrifice bunt and Gregory Cox sacrifice fly put the Garnet in front 5-4 in the top of the fifth.
Windisch drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the innings before Bahr doubled. Valori roped a one-out double down the line to turn the one-run deficit into a one-run lead.
A Fishburn triple and Ryan Burnett infield single gave the visitors a 7-6 advantage in the top of the eighth before Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) singled with two outs in the bottom of the inning. Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) followed with a triple into the right-field corner to knot the game.
Valori had four hits and four RBIs in the game while Bahr had two knocks.
In game two, the Green Terror sent 15 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, scoring nine times to break open a 3-1 game.
A Hayward triple and Windisch two-run single keyed a three-run second inning before the Garnet got one run back on a bases-loaded double play in the third.
A Windisch two-run triple and Rosanova two-run single keyed the nine-run fourth.
Swarthmore played one run in each the fifth and sixth before three errors helped McDaniel tack on three runs in the home sixth for a 15-3 lead.
Swarthmore closed to within 15-7 with four runs in the top of the seventh before a Hayward triple and PJ Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) sacrifice fly set the final margin in the bottom of the eighth.
In addition to Windisch's four hits, Hayward also recorded four knocks that included a pair of triples. Rosanova added three hits.
The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
