Nelson has two hits, RBIs in win

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – A three-run sixth inning proved to be the difference for McDaniel in a 5-3 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball victory over Dickinson on Wednesday.

Kasey Nelson (Denton, Md./St. Michael's) was one of four players with two hits for the Green Terror (11-12, 4-7 CC), including a two-run double in the decisive sixth inning.

Ryan Dolan and Steven Haynes led the Red Devils (10-16-1, 4-6-1 CC) with two hits each.

Trailing 2-1 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) poked a single into right field.

A fielding error allowed Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) to reach and moved Gilbert to second.

Nelson followed with a bouncing ball down the left-field line that scored both runners for a 3-2 lead.

Cody Dorsey (Boyds, Md./Poolesville) followed with a single into the right-center gap to push the lead to 4-2.

Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) singles with one out in the seventh before stealing second and moving to third on an groundout.

Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) followed with a ball through the left side of the infield to stretch the lead to 5-2.

A one-out infield single from Haynes, stolen base and Travis Nardin double cut the deficit to 5-3 in the eighth inning.

The Red Devils put the tying runs on base with nobody out in the top of the ninth but Zach Kronick (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) struck out the next two batters and got a flyout to earn the save and give Ben Van Put (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) his third win of the season on the mound.

Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) drew a walk to lead off the third inning before moving to second on a sacrifice and scoring on a Windisch single up the middle to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead.

Dolan led off the top of the sixth with a single before stealing second. A misplay on the ensuing sacrifice attempt put runners on the corners before Dolan scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

The Green Terror elected to come home on a Nardin groundball to first but could not get the out after a rundown, allowing Benn Parker to score for a 2-1 lead.

Sivo, Bahr and Gilbert also had two hits on the day.

McDaniel concludes the home-and-home series at Dickinson on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
