Windisch caps comeback with walkoff double

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel trailed 11-2 after four-and-a-half innings. Eventually, Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) capped a rally with a two-out double in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat darkness and Johns Hopkins 13-12 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Monday.

Windisch finished his day with four hits and three RBIs for the Green Terror (10-12, 3-7 CC) but none were bigger than driving the first pitch he saw over the center fielder's head and to the wall, scoring Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) from second and pulling in to second base before being mobbed by his teammates.

Colin McCarthy led the Blue Jays (14-8-1, 6-3-1 CC) with a 5-for-6 day that included two home runs and a double.

McDaniel had closed to within 11-9 before Rosanova drove a single through the right side with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.

After Rosanova stole second and took third on a wild pinch, Windisch drove a ball up the middle with two outs to close the gap to one.

A Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) single put runners at first and second before a throwing error allowed Windisch to score with the tying run.

The Blue Jays took the lead back in top of the eighth on a Mitch Weaver two-out solo home run to left-center.

Kasey Nelson (Denton, Md./St. Michael's) rocketed a ball to third base to lead off the bottom of the frame before pinch-runner Chad Nazelrod (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) moved to second on a sacrifice.

A Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) single put runners at the corners for Rosanova, who rolled a ball to shortstop but was able to beat out the attempted double play turn, allowing Nazelrod to score the tying run.

After Johns Hopkins had retired the first two batters in the bottom of the 10th, Rosanova drove a single into right field.

After a pickoff attempt, Rosanova caught the defense napping and was able to swipe second base to move into scoring position with the winning run.

Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) drew a walk before Windisch went to the deepest part of the ballpark with the game-winning hit.

A McCarthy two-out home run in the top of the first led off the scoring before the Blue Jays plated four runs in the second. Thomas Mee had a two-run single in the inning and McCarthy roped an RBI double to key the frame.

A Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) double and two-out throwing error got McDaniel on the board in the bottom of the second.

A Pete Siciliano two-run home run pushed the lead to 7-1 in the third before three straight singles from Bahr, Gilbert and Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) in the bottom of the frame made it a 7-2 game.

A McCarthy home run and three straight doubles made it 10-2 in the fourth.

Trailing 11-2, the Green Terror strung together eight hits, including four straight, in the fifth inning. Bahr had the big hit of the seven-run, 12-batter inning with a three-run home run to left field. O'Shea added a two-run single with the bases loaded and one out.

Bahr, Gilbert, Valori and Rosanova all had three hits while Nelson and O'Shea had two each. Zach Kronick (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, striking out four to pick up the win.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Dickinson on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
