Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington (Md.) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, which proved to be the difference in a 3-2 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Wednesday.
Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the Green Terror (8-7, 1-2 CC) with two hits and an RBI while pitching 7 1/3 innings with six strikeouts and just one walk.
Ryan Donnelly led the Shoremen (11-4, 3-0 CC) with two hits and all three RBIs.
Tied at 1-all, Joe Lozupone led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single before moving to second on a sacrifice. After a walk and fielder's choice put runners at the corners with two outs, Donnelly tripled to center field to score both runners for a 3-1 lead.
Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) reached on an infield single to lead off the eighth inning before moving to second on a groundout.
Windisch followed with a single to left field to cut the deficit to one but Dan Jarrell got a pair of popups to get out of the inning with the tying run on base.
Logan Dubbe then recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.
McDaniel struck first when Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) was hit by a pitch to lead off the second inning. One-out singles from Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) and Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made it a 1-0 game.
Logan Dubbe was hit by a pitch with two outs in the third before singels from Evan Hirschbaum and Donnelly evened the game.
The Green Terror concludes the home-and-home series with the Shoremen at home on Thursday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
