Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – Dubuque jumped out to a 6-0 lead en route to a 19-5 win over McDaniel at the Gene Cusic Classic in non-conference baseball action on Friday.
Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) led the Green Terror (5-4) with two hits and drove in all five runs, including a sixth-inning grand slam.
Daniel Casanova led the Cougars (5-7) with four hits.
An Austin McWhite double capped a two-run bottom of the first inning before Will Doherty had an RBI double in the second to key a three-run frame.
A Michael Salazar one-out home run made it a 6-0 game in the third before Gilbert singled home Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.), who walked to lead off the inning, to make it 6-1 in the fourth.
Dubuque plated six runs in the bottom of the inning to break the game wide open.
Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard), Valori and Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) all singled ahead of Gilbert in the sixth to make it a 13-5 game.
The Cougars tacked on two runs in each the sixth, seventh and eighth innings for the final margin.
Valori also had a pair of hits for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action at Penn State-Mont Alto on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
