Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – Wisconsin-Platteville scored five runs in the eighth inning to break open a 5-1 game en route to a 12-6 victory over McDaniel at the Gene Cusic Classic in non-conference baseball action on Monday.
Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) led the Green Terror (3-2) with a 2-for-4 day.
Evan Greco paced the Pioneers (1-3) with a 5-for-6 showing, adding three RBIs and three runs scored.
A Greco triple and two-out error staked Platteville to a 1-0 lead in the second inning before McDaniel took advantage of an error before back-to-back two-out singles from Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) and Gilbert evened the game.
Back-to-back doubles from Greco and Max Meitzer coupled with a two-run single by Jonny Frese keyed a four-run top of the sixth inning that made it a 5-1 game.
A Kyle Reinhart pinch-hit two-run single with two outs in the top of the eighth capped a five-run frame.
Drew Phillips (Sherwood, Md./St. Michael's), who walked with one out in the eighth inning, scored on a Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) bases-loaded walk to make it 10-2.
The Pioneers tacked on two runs in the top of the ninth before a string of pinch-hitters plated four runs in the Green Terror's last at bat to set the final margin.
The Green Terror returns to action in a doubleheader against Skidmore on Wednesday. The first game begins at 9 a.m.
