Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – McDaniel scored all six of its runs in two innings to down Dubuque 6-3 at the Gene Cusic Classic in non-conference baseball action on Sunday.
Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the Green Terror (3-1) with a 2-for-3 day while Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) also added a pair of hits.
Will Fogel led the Cougars (3-3) with two hits.
In a scoreless game in which both pitchers combined to scatter just eight baserunners through the first five innings, Ryan Karrick drew a walk to lead off the sixth.
After a sacrifice, Fogel singled home Kerrick for the game's first run.
A Dalton Garst two-out single plated Fogel for a 2-0 advantage.
Windisch singled with one out in the bottom of the frame before taking second on a wild pitch. After a walk to Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie), Dubuque got a flyout for the second out of the inning.
A Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) single scored Windisch before Kasey Nelson (Denton, Md./St. Michael's) drew a walk to load the bases.
Back-to-back fielding error allowed Gilbert and Hayward to score for a 3-2 edge.
Valori singled to lead off the seventh before Windisch was hit by a pitch.
With one out, Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) singled home Valori before a Nelson two-out doubled cleared the bases for a 6-2 lead.
A fielding error led to an unearned run in the top of the ninth inning to set the final margin.
Ben Van Put (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) threw 6 1/3 innings, scattering three hits with two strikeouts for his first collegiate win. Bryan Contino (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for the save.
The Green Terror returns to action against Wis.-Platteville on Monday. Game time is 9 a.m.
