Hayward records three hits, six RBIs in win

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – McDaniel plated eight runs in the top of the fourth inning to break a 3-all deadlock and catapult the team to a 17-3 season-opening victory at Gallaudet in non-conference baseball action on Thursday.

Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) led the Green Terror (1-0) with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a pair of doubles and a triple. He also had six RBIs.

Five different players had a single hit for the Bison (0-4), including Tom Pangia, who had a hit in his only plate appearance.

A trio of second-inning error led to three unearned runs for Gallaudet in the bottom of the second before McDaniel took advantage of a bases-loaded throwing error to cut the deficit to 3-2.

P.J. Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) led off the inning with a double before Justin Myers (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) was hit by a pitch and Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) beat out a bunt single to load the bases.

A Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) sacrifice fly knotted the game.

A Hayward one-out double and back-to-back errors gave the Green Terror a 5-3 lead in the fourth.

Four walks and a Bahr infield single made it an 8-3 game before Hayward cleared the bases with a two-out double.

Hayward keyed a five-run fifth with a bases-loaded, two-out triple that stretched the lead to 16-3.

A Cody Dorsey (Boyds, Md./Poolesville) walk followed by three straight singles from Michael Dunn (Lanham, Md./DeMatha), Kaleb Reitz (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) and Jonathan McKinney (Jonestown, Md./Northern Lebanon) tacked on the 17th run in the eighth inning.

Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) pitched the first four innings with three strikeouts.

The 17 runs scored by the Green Terror was its most in a single game since plating 23 against Muhlenberg on Apr. 19, 2008.

McDaniel opens its eight-game trip to Fort Myers, Fla., with a doubleheader against Lakeland on Saturday. The first game begins at 9 a.m.
