CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington (Md.) won the final four events and seven overall to top McDaniel 111-94 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action on Saturday.
Syd Knadler (Crowley Lake, Calif./Mammoth) led the Green Terror (2-9, 1-6 CC) with three wins, including individual wins in the 50 (24.92 seconds) and 100 (55.59) freestyle events.
Ellen Maxwell led the Shorewomen (5-6, 2-5 CC) with three individual wins. She touched first in both distance events, winning the 1000 free in a time of 11:04.63 and the 500 free in a time of 5:25.31, while also winning the 200 IM (2:14.72).
Washington also won the final relay to claim the victory. Katie Gorman, Joelle Williamson, Alicia Howard and Mackenzie Gaze combined to swim a time of 3:43.63 in the 400 free relay and win by nearly three seconds.
Samantha Smith (APO, AP, Thailand/International School of Bangkok) also won twice for McDaniel. She and Knadler joined Cara Dube (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran) and Kelly Lewis (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mills) to win the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:08.54. Smith also touched first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.08.
Lewis added a second-place showing in the 100 breaststroke, turning in a season-best time of 1:10.19 while Dube was second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.60.
Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) was second in the 1000 free (10:57.56) and 500 free (5:35.03) while Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) finished second in the 200 IM (2:18.99).
The Green Terror returns to action at the CC Championship hosted by Gettysburg on Friday, Feb. 20-Sunday, Feb. 22. Action begins at 12 p.m. on Friday.
