WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenendoah took two of the three doubles matches before splitting singles to notch a 5-4 win over McDaniel in non-conference men's tennis action on Friday.
Seth McFall (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) won twice for the Green Terror (1-2), including a three-set victory at No. 2 singles.
Will Leach paced the Hornets (2-0) with two wins of his own. Leach teamed with Kelly Sykes for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles before tallying a 6-4, 6-2 victory at fifth singles.
McFall opened his senior season, teaming with Satchel McCarthy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) for an 8-1 victory at first doubles. McFall then notched a 7-6 win in the first set of his No. 2 singles match, winning 7-5 in the tiebreaker. Blake Sharp forced a deciding set with a 7-6 win of his own in the second set, winning 7-4 in the tiebreaker. McFall took the third set, 6-1.
Daniel Xinis (Owings, Md./Northern) and Will Giles (LaVale, Md./Bishop Walsh) were also winners for McDaniel in singles. Xinis took No. 4 singles, 6-2, 7-5. Giles needed a third set to take the victory at sixth singles. Giles took the opening set 6-4 before Zach O'Neal won 6-1 in the second set. Giles took the match with a 6-4 win in the deciding set.
Matt Hwang was also a double winner for Shenandoah, teaming with Sharp for a 9-7 win at second doubles. Hwang then notched a 7-5, 6-7, 7-6 win at third singles.
The Green Terror returns to action on its spring break trip to Hilton Head.
