McClellan wins three times

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Ursinus won seven of the first eight events to record a 74-21 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action on Saturday.

Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) led the Green Terror (0-2, 0-2 CC) with three wins on the afternoon. She touched first in both the 1000 free (11:13.22) and 500 free (5:27.02) and anchored the 200 free relay, which capped the meet with a victory in a time of 1:44.98.

Peyten Lyons led the Bears (5-0, 2-0 CC), who were the preseason favorites to repeat as conference champions, with three wins in the meet. Lyons led off the 200 medley relay, joining Katie Pielmeier, Clara Baker and Corinne Capodanno to open the meet with a win a time of 1:51.81.

Lyons also won the 200 free (1:59.86) and 100 backstroke (1:00.93). Baker added a win in the 100 butterfly, touching first in a pool-record time of 58.66 seconds. Capodanno also notched a Harlow Pool record, winning the 100 free in a time of 53.81 seconds. Pielmeier added a second win in the 200 IM (2:17.37).

Bryn Blanchard (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) was victorious in the 100 breaststroke for McDaniel, finishing with a time of 1:10.39.

Kelly Lewis (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mills), Joanna Wattenberg (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) and Emily Gross (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) joined McClellan on the final relay.

Gross and Blanchard joined Cara Dube (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran) and Samantha Smith (Bangkok, Thailand/International School of Bangkok) to finish second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.28, which ranks fifth in program history.

Becca Sykes (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) also turned in an all-time top-10 time, finishing the 1,000 free in a time of 11:34.32.

The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Wednesday. Meet time is 7 p.m.
