Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins scored in the 109th minute to hand McDaniel its first loss of the season 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Tuesday.
Kristen Upton (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored in the first half to lead the Green Terror (14-1-2, 6-1-2 CC), who had debuted at No. 25 earlier in the NSCAA Div. III coaches' poll earlier in the day.
Alaina Arthur tallied for the game-winner for the Blue Jays (12-3-1, 8-1 CC) to keep hopes for the top seed in next weekend's conference tournament alive.
Sophie Murphy crossed the ball to Arthur, who banged a ball from the center of the box off the right post. With the win, Johns Hopkins remains alive for the top seed and would host the tournament with a win over Gettysburg on Saturday and at least one loss by Swarthmore in the final two games. McDaniel would lock up a rematch with the Blue Jays with at win or tie at Washington (Md.) on Saturday should the Garnet claim the top seed.
Just 3:36 into the game, Kristen Hori brought down a centering pass from the right corner, playing the ball right to Meg Van de Loo. Van de Loo, fired off the right post and just over the line for a 1-0 lead.
In the 11th minute, Upton sent a ball in from 50 yards out on the right side that bounced over the keeper's head into the back of the net to knot the game at 1-all.
Christina Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) played a ball through from the midfield in the 62nd ahead to Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding), who drew the keeper and blasted the ball home from the top of the box for a 2-1 edge.
In the 80th minute, a foul at the top of the box gave Johns Hopkins a penalty kick. Issy Berkey stepped up and buried the shot low in the corner to even the game with 10:57 to play.
Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) made six saves in goal for the Green Terror while Clara Aranguren had four stops in relief for the Blue Jays.
Johns Hopkins finished with a 21-17 edge in shot, including 5-2 in the 18:30 of extra time.
Game time of Saturday is 2 p.m.
