WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel took the top three singles flights to secure a 5-4 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) in the first men's tennis action of the fall for both teams on Sunday.
Ryan Salomon (Bethesda, Md./The Siena) led the Green Terror (1-0) with two wins. He teamed with Daniel Xinis (Owings, Md./Northern) for an 8-2 victory at second doubles before tallying a 6-2, 6-2 win at third singles.
Connor McKissick won twice for the Seahawks (0-1), partnering with Mark Hardesty for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles before taking a three-set win at fourth singles, 2-6, 7-6, 10-8.
Satchel McCarthy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles while Phillip Jorgensen (Bowie, Md./Cahal Academy) took a three-set win in the No. 2 slot. After dropping a 6-3 decision in the first set, Jorgensen rallied for a 7-6 tiebreak victory in the second set and took the deciding set, 7-5.
Corey Glocker (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) and Will Giles (LaVale, Md./Bishop Walsh) made it a 2-1 McDaniel advantage after doubles play, taking an 8-5 decision at the third slot.
Xinis, Glocker and Giles all forced third sets in singles play but fell in super-tiebreakers.
The Green Terror concludes a limited fall schedule at home against Goucher on Friday, Oct. 3. Match time is 3 p.m.
