Kronick throws shutout to key sweep

LANCASTER, Pa. – McDaniel pitching limited Franklin & Marshall to just one run while the offense racked up 14 runs and 22 hits in a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader sweep on Sunday.

The Green Terror (9-12, 3-3 CC) took the opener 11-0 behind a complete-game, seven-hit shutout by Zach Kronick (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland, who improved to 2-0 on the mound. In game two, McDaniel got back to .500 in conference play with a 3-1 win. Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) went eight innings with five strikeouts for his third win while David Pisauro (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) pitched the ninth to earn the save.

Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the offense with five hits, three RBIs and and three runs scored.

Rob Anderson had five for the Diplomats (10-12, 2-3 CC), who had nine hits in game two after notching seven in game one.

Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led off the opener with a walk before taking second on a wild pitch and scoring on a Jonathan McKinney (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) double.

Windisch followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

A two-out error followed by a Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) single and Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) double pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third.

A walk to Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) loaded the bases before PJ Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) was hit by a pitch to force in Betts and make it a 4-0 game.

A Windisch single up the middle and Betts double pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fifth.

The Green Terror broke it open with four runs in the sixth inning.

Brad Hampton (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) led off the frame with a single before Sivo drew a walk.

A McKinney sacrifice moved the runners to second and third for Windisch. The sophomore greeted a new pitcher with an RBI single through the right side before a Betts RBI groundout plated Sivo for a 7-0 lead.

An error in the outfield with two outs allowed Windisch to score from second before a Fiore double plated Valori for a 9-0 advantage.

A Sivo walk, McKinney single and wild pitch pushed the lead to 10-0 in the seventh.

A Sivo two-out single and walk to McKinney put runners at first and second in the top of the ninth. Pinch-hitter Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) singled to center field to score Sivo and set the final margin.

Windisch and Betts each had three hits while Sivo and McKinney had two knocks each in game one.

In the nightcap, Anderson drew a walk to lead off the top of the third before moving to second on an Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) sacrifice.

After a groundout, Sivo singled to right to plate Anderson for a 1-0 lead.

McKinney drew a one-out walk in the sixth before scoring on a Windisch double one batter later.

Hofmeister led off the seventh with a single before taking second on a Hampton sacrifice and third on a balk.

Sivo followed with a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.

Will Beneson was hit by a one-out pitch in the bottom of the eighth before a David Iacobucci single put two runners on.

After a strikeout, Matt Mezansky singled to center to break up more than 16 innings of shutout ball.

Pisauro got the first two batters out in the bottom of the ninth before Anderson reached on an infield single but was tagged out after he was caught off the base for the final out.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
